Nightdriving

by Jay Speiden

/

about

Incandescent green leaves, wet and translucent in the beams of your headlight glow. Spring nights are for driving, just don't be lulled to sleep by the smoke that roils off the sodden lowlands.

lyrics

Tonight's a night for driving, tonight's a night for cars. The boys and girls are out racing, they're open to the stars.

In the purple broken light of midnight, see them scamper to the darker places from afar.

Tonight's a night for driving, tonight's a night for boys and girls in cars.

You'll get yours and we'll go get ours. A thousand stars like diamonds gonna fall. Open up your hand and catch them all. Thousand diamonds falling. Open up your hand and catch them all.

You see one hundred deer standing in a circle in the center of your yard. So silently they disappear into the gloomy, gloomy darkness as the morning starts to break into the dawn. Yeah, the purple morning sunlight is gonna break this open soon you've got to call. I see you standing, your back to everyone, your eyes pinned to something out beyond the wall.

The wet green leaves are iridescent in the headlights of your car. Tonight's a night for driving, tonight's a night for driving, tonight's a night for cars.

Hold this up don't shake it, it won't hold up to much shaking after all.

Tonight's a night for driving, Tonight's a night for cars.
